Mexicoââ¬â¢s Experience after NAFTA
The question whether Mexico has benefited from NAFTA is still under discussion and constant debates. Some claim that since NAFTA there is a significant increase in poverty rates, whereas others provide the opposite information. Apparently, in broader terms, the country has benefited from free trade agreement and NAFTA is surely good for Mexican population, although it leads to inevitable changes in agricultural sector. However, changes donââ¬â¢t mean turning situation for worse. In particular, two-way trade between the United States and Mexico swiftly grew up and amounts up to $231 billion in 2002 compared with $81 billion in 1993. It means that Mexican modest trade deficit is turned into trade surplus of about $37 billion. (Williams 2004) Further, countryââ¬â¢s export grew as well up to 80% during 1985-1993 after accession to GATT. Since NAFTA the growth rate has even doubled. Mexicoââ¬â¢s export of end-products amounts about 90% of total exports. It leads to creation of more jobs and higher paying. The next moment to mention is that the annual growth of gross domestic product (GDP) is 5.4% in 2000 compared with 3.9% during 1990-1994. Many economic analysts say that both export and international trade are keys to accelerating countryââ¬â¢s economic and financial recovery after crisis in 1995. During 2001-2002 GDP growth slowed down because of economic woes in the USA, but since 2002 it has been increasing. (Gruben 2001) Agricultural export has also certain benefits since accession to NAFTA. Previously, the countryââ¬â¢s annual deficit was about &1.5 billion with the USA, but since NAFTA agricultural export has doubled as well ââ¬â in 2002 growth of agricultural exports was about 9%. The next benefit is lower costs inputs for countryââ¬â¢s food processing due to increased competition and free trade. Moreover, decreased inflation rates for food products provided excellent opportunities for stabilizing inflation since 1990s. It may seem that increased competition would destroy some business, but the positive moment is that the dollar value of countryââ¬â¢s agricultural production has increased ââ¬â for pork up to 24%, for beef up to 13%, for chicken up to 60%, for fruits up to 27%, for sorghum up to 85%, and for vegetables up to 36%. (Williams 2004) Despite increased competition, many of Mexicoââ¬â¢s sectors remain competitive with the US sectors: fresh fruits, vegetables, live cattle, tomatoes and avocado. Moreover, export of horticultural has also increased by 120%. Mexican debate in agricultural sector is how to offer more protection from imports. However, some claim that party simple seeks ways how to capitalize relations with the rural poor. For example, David Williams writes that ââ¬Å"NAFTA provisions coupled with the U.S. Farm Bill, often have been portrayed as portending certain doom for Mexico's agricultural sector; however, U.S. producers absorb costs that Mexican producers do not, such as high labor costs, costs of compliance with strict environmental and worker safety regulations and taxesâ⬠. (Williams 2004) Actually, Mexico faces domestic structural problems which canââ¬â¢t be addressed by NAFTA. Creation of new jobs, lower consumer prices and deceased inflation rates allowed farmer not to feel dependent from agricultural sector mainly. Transition from agricultural sector is inevitable even without NAFTA. Summing up, Mexico has benefited from NAFTA, and nowadays about 20% of countryââ¬â¢s GDP is ââ¬Å"attributable to trade made possible by NAFTA provisionsâ⬠. (Williams 2004) Countryââ¬â¢s rural regions also benefited from NAFTA as free trade ensured creation of thousands of new jobs along with higher payments. Mexican government announced that poverty rates had decreased in urban and rural areas since 1995. So, Mexico revealed that free trade was necessary for accelerating economic and financial development and transitions to competitive manufacturing sectors. Future Mexicoââ¬â¢s policies are to focus on generating more jobs, developing more trade opportunities and improving productivity of those businesses which have the competitive potential. Albert Bandura the founder of reciprocal determinism
Albert Bandura the founder of reciprocal determinism Albert Bandura, the founder of reciprocal determinism was born in Canada in 1925. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, where he developed the social learning theory. Bandura had certain strong beliefs on how psychological research should be done. He believed research should be conducted in laboratories where psychologists could control factors that determined behavior. Bandura has conducted many famous clinical studies which are the basis of the several books he has written. Bandura was also the creator of the reciprocal determinism theory which showed he believed that a personââ¬â¢s behavior both influences and is influenced by personal factors and the social environment. Personal factors are those that are based on a personââ¬â¢s morals, ethics ideas, and personality. The social environment consists of everything external to the self, which are other people, their beliefs, ideas and external items. Two brief examples of reciprocal determinism would be a person who is afraid of flying on airplanes will act nervous, scared, and out of the ordinary which would be the personal factor. This will cause the other people on the plane to become agitated and worried, making the nervous flier even more afraid. This shows how personal determinants, environmental determinants and behavioral determinants interact and influence each other. Another example would be of a man who cannot hold a job and therefore feels like a failure. His inability to hold a job is due to poor work habits and therefore influences employers to treat him bad until his behavior becomes terrible and is ultimately fired. Reciprocal determinism is affected by self-efficiency, which is a personââ¬â¢s belief about their ability to achieve a goal or an outcome. There are several ways to influence self-efficiency; performance accomplishments, vicarious experiences, verbal persuasion and emotional arousal. Performance accomplishments are based on a personââ¬â¢s own experiences wh ich are past successes and failures. Vicarious experiences are based on the observations of others and their performance in executing a task. Verbal persuasion uses suggestions or self-instruction as a motivator. Lastly, emotional arousal is used by diminishing emotional arousals that are associated with decreased performance. http://www.learningsolutionsmag.com/assets/images/learningsolutions/061410/061410_f1.png A helpful way to think of reciprocal determinism is in the form of a triangle. At the top would be behavioralà determinantsà and the two corners would be personal determinants and environmental determinants. Arrows go back and forth between each word showing that they are influenced by each other. The basic idea is that personal factors (cognitive and affective events), the environment and behavior all influence each other. This triangle aids to understand that humans are shaped by their environment and also shape the environment. à Self- Efficacy A personââ¬â¢s belief about their ability to organize and carry out courses of action needed to accomplish a goal is known as self- efficacy. Those persons, who are confident in their capability to execute a behavior, have very strong efficacy beliefs. These beliefs are influencing our personal emotional reactions and choices, motivation, and patters, therefore they are considered to have a very significant impact on our goals and accomplishments in life. (Bandura. A. Psychological Review. 1977).

EMPLOYER VS EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTION HEALTHCARE WITH UNION WORKERS Thesis Proposal
EMPLOYER VS EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTION HEALTHCARE WITH UNION WORKERS - Thesis Proposal Example evident that healthy humans or workers can only put in their best efforts and elevate organizationsââ¬â¢ performance, their profits, their market share, and so on. This being the case, it is very crucial for the organizations, labor unions, and even government to adopt or come up with policies to safeguard and improve the health of the employees. Speaking of governmentââ¬â¢s role, although it is a joint federal/state system, the federal government has given the main responsibility of regulating health insurance policies regarding employees to the states. In addition, governments are encouraging organizations to come up with their own health insurance plans called employer contributed health insurance. under the McCarran-Ferguson Act. States regulate the content of health insurance policies and often require coverage of specific types of medical services or health care providersthey have The 1985 act of ââ¬ËThe Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliationââ¬â¢ required that every employer having twenty or more employees should provide nonstop access to health coverage to workers who leave their jobs. Moreover the 1996 Act of ââ¬ËHealth Insurance Portability and Accountabilityââ¬â¢ (HIPA) guarantees the employees that their company authorized health insurance cover will not be revocable under any preexisting exclusions. (Patel and Rushefsky 2006). Based on this enticing factor and other necessities, the health insurance cover can be enlarged. Provide a tax credit to companies that maintain or increase the size of U.S. workforce relative to workforce outside the United States...prepare workers for retirement; provide health insurance (Sullivan, 2008). ââ¬Å"Small businesses currently get a tax deduction for health insurance paid, and even this is limited to only an income tax deduction for the owner. Convert this deduction into a dollar-for-dollar credit. Let small businesses reduce their tax burden by how much they spend on health insurance premi ums and health savings account

Read the article then write - Essay Example rk, headquartered in Melno Park, California, US., had over 8,350 employees in the same time with Mark Zuckerberg serving as chairman and CEO while Sheryl Sandberg stands in as the COO. The company is traded as NASDAQ:FB in the stock exchange market (Harvell, 24-30). Facebook was founded in February 4th 2004 and served only small regions in the United States in the next one year. However, in the following years, that is, from 2005 to date, the site has been operational worldwide (as it is now used by various individuals, organizations and governments) with its global presence ever increasing. The founders at the beginning had restricted membership only to students of Harvard but later allowed membership in neighboring colleges in Boston such as Stanford University and the Ivy League. Currently, through its webpage, www.facebook.com, the site permits persons over age 13 to register as members then create for themselves user profiles, add other users as friends, like other brands/ persons/ groups, post photos and status updates, receive numerous relevant notifications, share videos and exchange messages (Harvell, 65-81). I recently engaged and observed a few people in my quest to find out just how much the social network has changed peopleââ¬â¢s lives and dramatically revolutionized their ways of doing and seeing things. The results and views are quite frankly overwhelming with most persons able to cite with utmost confidence the numerous advantages and disadvantages of engaging the site. Mrs. Gordon, for instance, appreciates the fact that through Facebook, she has been able to successfully reconnect with long lost friends especially from her college years simply by typing their names, searching for them then sending them messages/ adding them as friends. She quips, ââ¬Å"I have reacquired friends whose contacts I had lost long ago and dear people who I thought I would never see or talk to again through Facebook.â⬠Moreover, Mrs. Gordon argues that Facebook is the most

(Annotated Bibliography) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
(Annotated Bibliography) - Essay Example By this, the authors mean how efficiently a product serves it purpose for the predicted period. The article claims that predicting the reliability of a product earlier is important since it helps in detection of aspects such as possible failure or decrease in life cycle. This is crucial since it ensures that the material selected for manufacture of the product is appropriate reducing inspection as well as impromptu maintenance. When making predictions, it is important to consider the environment to which the product will be exposed. This is because the lifecycle may change with environment. Mishra, Pecht, and Goodman (1) list the objectives of reliability prediction as reducing output drawbacks, enhancing maintenance, ensuring that the equipment remains effective, increasing profitability and enable designing of future products that are safer and with lesser failures. The article claims that advancement in technology has increased guarantee and liability of product letdown. This has led to increased product reliability. However, the authors argue that increasing function ability of products such as gate oxide might lead to neglect for reliability. The article posits, ââ¬Å"A reliability prediction for a product is dependent on its structural architecture, material properties, fabrication process, and the life cycle environmentâ⬠(Mishra, Pecht, and Goodman 2). This is because products manufactured from same production line vary in material properties. Variation in material properties during manufacture of semiconductor devices may lead to altered reliability, which affects functioning ability in different environments. For semiconductor devices, the product life cycle is the expected severity and the load conditions such as temperature, pressure, humidity, dust, electromagnetic radiation levels and the environment. Goals for improving your interpersonal communication Essay
Goals for improving your interpersonal communication - Essay Example When we communicate with a group of people we are purely communicating in simple words which eventually become our idea or give it a meaning and are conveyed to other people easily. Other people might use the same words which makes the same sense at the same time. These words and ideas reflect an individualââ¬â¢s background because when we communicate we are not just communicating with words but our gesture, body language, delivery style is also judged. People actually judge us by our behavior, no body reads the brain. We are watched out by the people even if a single wrong word is delivered by us whether itââ¬â¢s professional field, student life or a social forum. This part makes an individual better at interpersonal communication and prepares students like me for their career and professional life. I have started to communicate with people at every level in order to view things at a broader perspective and while interacting it gives me an overview of how individual thinks and about their mind set (Devito 65). I need to have 100 percent knowledge and information about the topic or event being discussed. In order to attain this goal I have started to work on my reading skills so that to get a better grip on communication and language skills. Also to get your memory refreshed with knowledge (subscribe to news paper or journals). By reading books one can help develop creativity. To get a better idea of other people interest and area we need to read about different types of people (Devito 105-108). For instance; if I am communicating in a group who belong to different fields I should know their mind set in order to explain my idea else it would never sound relevant to them. To share my perception with someone I need to be open in a way that others find me friendly and which results in strong building of relationships. All this require self confidence and increasing the social circle. Communication can even

Write two short paragraphs for each topic__total up to 3 topics - Assignment Example The French citizens redesigned the political landscape of their country in a bid to outdo obsolete institutions set up during the feudal and absolute monarchy system. Enlightenment ideals influenced the revolution. The French craved for the adoption of concepts of popular sovereignty and rights that were inalienable in the country. Reforms created a constitutional monarchy. Feudal codes and old regime taxes ended. The revolution shaped modern nations by depicting to the world the immense power in peopleââ¬â¢s wills. It occurred between the years 1956 and 1975. Nationalist forces struggled with the U.S. in an attempt to unify Vietnam under a government based on communist ideals. South Vietnamese aided the U.S. in preventing the spread of the communist state. The American citizens had stopped supporting the U.S. leaders. The United States forces withdrew from Vietnam in 1973 and the whole of Vietnam attained union under communism in 1975. The war had extensive consequences on the U.S. including recession in the countryââ¬â¢s
